We began our search for a bloodhound in 1996 and in April of 1997 we got
our first bloodhound! We were hooked and a new world started to unfold for us.
My passion for bloodhounds started when I was in school. When I was about 14 I
used to walk a neighbor's bloodhound after school. I'm not sure what it was
about him that made me want one considering all the times he destroyed his
owner's possessions and managed to get loose but right then and there I knew
what breed I wanted! Each dog that comes into our lives brings something new to
the table. Our first dog is considered to be our "teacher". He has taught us how
to become responsible dog owners and to be strict but fair. Give a bloodhound an
inch and he'll take a mile (and then some)! The bloodhound isn't for everyone.
They drool, no really, they drool A LOT! Not all drool a lot but they are all
capable of getting it in places you'd never imagine! They can be destructive -
No, they don't like to sit on the porch and watch the world go by - but they
certainly will chase it and not watch where they are going! Which brings me to
another good point - own a bloodhound own a fence. Without a decent fence you
mine as well kiss your bloodhound good bye. Sure, they can find their way back
but not if the car meets them head on first. Back to being destructive. If you
don't mind getting rid of all knick knacks, good furniture and area rugs than
the breed may be right for you. Counter surfing is a popular sport with many
bloodhounds as well. Well, I could go on and on but if you are still thinking
the bloodhound is right for you then there's not much more I can say to change
your mind at this point but don't say I didn't warn ya!
